Winner: The Philadelphia Orchestra Association

Amount: $150,000

About the project: To expand concert content and accessibility, The Philadelphia Orchestra Association will create smart phone apps that supply real-time context about live performances. Over the next two years, a group of graduate and undergraduate students will be assigned to design iNotes with real-time synchrony, pre- and post-concert education, interaction and technical resolution of concert hall networking content for designated performances. A series of trials and tests on live performances and the supply of 1,000 iPods for patron use will ensure that the new service will successfully increase the audience’s knowledge of and appreciation for classical music.
