Winner: Zero1 - The Art and Technology Network (Zero One)

Amount: $975,000

About the project: To build an internationally recognized cultural identity and sense of place for the Silicon Valley by strengthening ZERO1's organizational capacity and making its biennial international digital arts festival a signature cultural event.

About the winner: The mission of ZERO1, founded in 2000, is the transformation of San Jose and Silicon Valley into a global epicenter for the intersection of art, technology and digital culture. The organization currently brings an international network of artists, curators and cultural leaders to the valley for a biennial festival. This grant will ensure that the 2010 festival is the best ever and provide the means for ZERO1 to have a stronger organization, sustainable financial model and an ongoing leadership position in the arts community. It identifies three phases to bring this about. During the first ZERO1 will expand its curatorial and production relationships. The next, Biennial Execution, emphasizes creating ZERO1’s signature programs, especially the 2010 OISJ Biennial. The final phase is about focusing on long-term growth and new opportunities to ensure fiscal self-sufficiency.
