LegalArt, Miami’s premiere residency program, is currently accepting applications for its Local and Visiting Residency Program. Deadlines are August 31 and October 1 (respectively). Please apply online or email us for more details.
Responding to artists’ need for affordable space in Miami, LegalArt formed the city’s first live/work residency program in 2010. Open to all producers of culture, including visual and performing artists, museum professionals, curators, writers, film-makers, and designers, among others, the residency program functions as a two-part system: part one provides Miami-based artists highly subsidized, year-long studios, and part two delivers national and international participants live/work space for up 3 months. This unique environment bridges the local and the global, creating an open space for discourse, collaboration, and endless professional opportunities.
Strategically positioned in downtown Miami between the new Arts and Entertainment District and the historic African American Overtown neighborhood, LegalArt’s facility was designed by New York-based Snarkitecture and boasts seven, 600 square-foot live/work studios, a full-kitchen, communal dining and lounge spaces, a 450 square-foot project space, and a 2000 square-foot floor dedicated to public programming and administration. Founded in 2003, LegalArt has become a hotbed for contemporary culture thanks to generous support from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, and Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs.
