Hello gospel! Random Acts of Culture welcomed the Miami Mass Choir to its network earlier this month. On Dec 11, the choir surprised shoppers at Macy’s Aventura with spontaneous performances of Down by the Riverside. There were eight performances, 13 performers, hundreds of spectators and an infinite amount of joy.

Why Does Knight Foundation Fund Random Acts of Culture™? Knight Foundation, like its founders Jack and Jim Knight, focuses on promoting informed and engaged communities. To that end, we strongly believe in the potential of the arts to engage residents, and bring a community together. Hearing Handel, or seeing the tango in an unexpected place provides a deeply felt reminder of how the classics can enrich our lives. As you’ll see in our videos, the performances make people smile, dance, grab their cameras – even cry with joy. For those brief moments, people going along in their everyday lives are part of a shared, communal experience that makes their community a more vibrant place to live. In these days of shrinking audiences, we also hope that these random acts will encourage people to attend traditional performances. We can’t promise it. But it’s hard to watch what unfolds during a Random Act of Culture®, and not be inspired to see and hear more

Terrific! The good people of this choir can sing anytime, anywhere. Rousing and inspired arrangement of this classic. My favorite image was the man singing directly to the children. Friends live around the corner in Miami Gardens and didn’t know this was coming. How do we find out time of next event?

Hi Ginny, so glad you liked it. We don’t let people know in advance in order to maintain the surprise. Hope you happen across one.

I have experienced joy through tears watching this video. I live in Philadelphia and have seen some “Random Acts of Culture” that have occurred in the city only on the news. I am hoping to be fortunate enough to be in the right place @ the right to witness first hand the beauty of the arts given freely! What an injection of love and inspiration these acts are. To God be the glory!!! Thank you!!!!
