Locust Projects is pleased to announce its third year of LAB (Locust Arts Builders), a collaborative exhibition by a select group of South Florida High School students. Under the direction of renowned contemporary artist Monica Lopez de Victoria of the TM Sisters, sixteen local high school students experience the invigorating and arduous process of conceiving and executing original artworks.
The 16 participating artists are: Angelica Castillo, Steven Espinosa, Tiziana Felice, Valerie Franco, Samantha Grenier, Aurora Lazaro, Stepanie Michelle Navarrete, Angelica Perez, Tiffany Pomares, Denzil Posada, Sage Roatta, Britney Leigh Segermeister, Arlene Soto, Savannah Grace Vieth and Ziqi Wang.
The students, currently attending American Senior High, Design and Architecture Senior High, Dr. Michael M. Krop High, Gulliver Academy, Hialeah High School and New World School of the Arts, were selected from an open call by a committee of local art professionals. The goal is to promote contemporary art and project-based learning as a means to encourage creativity, critical analysis, and problem solving, while building communication skills. This unique initiative will allow young artists to learn the practical and exciting aspects of creating a public exhibition in collaboration with their peers.
The artists will be installing at the gallery weekdays, June 27 – July 13, from 9 – 2pm. Feel free to stop by and see their progress.
