By Christy Gast, Artists in Residence in Everglades
For more than ten years, the Artists in Residence in Everglades has given creatives the time and space to contemplate and make new work deep within the River of Grass. The residency hosts artists, writers, choreographers and composers for a month at a time, every month of the year–yes, even in buggy and sultry August! Notable past residents include Mark Dion and Dana Sherwood, Trong Gia Nguyen, and Naomi Fisher. Later this year the residency will host Gustavo Matamoros of iSaw Subtropics, the journalist Bill Maxwell, and Austrian photographer Mathias Kessler.
AIRIE is hosting a Summer Salon fundraiser on June 30 from 5-8 pm at a private home in Coconut Grove. Along with great refreshments, the event will include a performance by current AIRIE Fellow Ana Mendez, an audio installation by Gustavo Matamoros, and a dozen artworks created by past residents. Detailed information can be found here.
