By Scott Harrison, Detroit Symphony Orchestra
The first full season of Live from Orchestra Hall webcasts, presented by the Ford Motor Company Fund and made possible with the generous support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, was a runaway success. We reached nearly 125,000 viewers in over 75 countries. From their #DSOLive tweets – which came in English, Spanish, Italian, French, Russian, Japanese, you name it – we heard firsthand how powerful an impression our webcasts were making. Music lovers who didn’t live near an orchestra, parents who wanted to introduce their young children to the orchestra, students who needed a study break – they all tuned in and become part of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra ’s global community.
After each webcast the calls immediately came – when can we watch it again? I had to miss the first half, when’s the rerun? I want to share this concert with a friend, how can I do that? Our response was to launch the Summer Encore Series. All summer long, we are running a different #DSOLive webcast from the 2011-12 season each weekend at dso.org/live. And these encores are on-demand, from Friday at 5pm ET to Monday at 9am ET. So no matter your time zone or your schedule, you can find a tune to get comfortable and enjoy a DSO concert wherever you are and however you prefer to watch.
